This comes in as our top pick not only because it has some of the finest barbecue and Hawaii but also because it’s only about 10 minutes away from our Mililani self-storage facility. The Tin Hut is a disabled veteran-owned gourmet food truck, restaurant, and catering company specializing in barbecue made famous by the mainland. It was noted as Hawaii’s best barbecue in 2017, although we think it deserves the distinction every year. Get to take two plates or the meat trio platter to sample what our favorite spot has to offer.
- Sura Hawaii – Honolulu
Mainland barbecue isn’t the only way to fill your appetite. If you don’t mind the drive about 30 minutes south of SecureSpace Self Storage in Mililani, HI, you’ll find Sura, Hawaii. All-you-can-eat Korean barbecue is the big draw here, but you can choose a family-sized take-out with side dishes to go.
- Helena’s Hawaiian Food – Honolulu
Helena’s Hawaiian food is only about four miles from Sura, but it’s another one of our favorites that’s worth the drive. Serving only the finest traditional Hawaiian food since 1946, Helana’s is the go-to for locals and tourists alike. - Gyu-Kaku Japanese Barbecue – Waikiki
Although this Waikiki staple is a chain, it’s still worth noting as it’s full of local flavor and offers a la carte, full course, and lunch menus. It’s also one of the few places to get true Wagyu beef. The food is fantastic, and there’s even a menu for the little ones. So what is our favorite thing on the menu? Desserts. Spend the $7 on the taiyaki, a fish-shaped pastry deep-fried with sweet red beans and served with a scoop of ice cream.
- Gina’s Barbecue – Honolulu
Gina’s barbecue is also in the greater Honolulu area in the Market City Shopping Center. Another one of our favorite family-owned restaurants, Gina’s, serves traditional Hawaiian and Korean barbecue, noodles, and soups. Originally founded in 1991, this is one of our go-to lunch spots. In fact, it’s not unusual to find Gina’s take-out boxes in the trash cans of SecureSpace Self Storage Mililani. After all, we’ve got to eat.
